In plain words

In just the same way, every man on earth too sets about many kinds of efforts and works with the resolve to experience Śānti. Where we have the feeling called Dharma, right there character shines. Where there is character, unity grows in that home. Where there is unity, there is discipline in that nation. Where there is discipline, we have Śānti in the world. So Śānti rests on the character of the individual. When we develop such character, Śānti comes to us. That very doorway of character is the seat of the heart. That very seat of the heart is the seat of the Ātma; there is a funny little story about this. Once upon a time God created a jīva: ‘O jīva! What do you want?’ He asked, so they say; ‘ask for whatever you want, and I will give it,’ He said. That very instant the goddess said, so the story goes, ‘What is this! You are granting a boon so foolishly. If You tell him to ask for whatever he wants, there is not a single thing that man will not ask for. He has no idea what desires are, yet man keeps asking for everything. To such a jīva, to him of all people, You are giving the freedom to ask for whatever he likes, and by giving that freedom, in the end he will not even look at our face,’ she warned, so they say. Then God said, so they say, “Devī! I am not so foolish. I keep giving man every comfort, everything he asks for; but though he asks for every desire, Ātmaśānti alone he will not ask for. Keeping that with ourselves alone, we give him everything he asks for. For that Śānti at least he will come to us,” God said, so they say. Then the goddess asked, so they say. As for how this Śānti is to be had with us: there is no need to come to us; we are present in all forms as the forms of the Ātma. Wherever there is selfless rule and a life of morality and honesty, there Śānti brims over for them. So, as to how man should be today: the proper study of mankind is man. That is, the thinking of the mind, the telling of the word, the doing of the deed. The oneness of these three is found solely in the seat of the Ātma, and only there.
