In plain words
Modernity has grown without end; the learning of the Ātma has dwindled without limit; Satya and Dharma have all faded away; Prema, Śānti and Ahiṃsā have grown poor.
Satya, Dharma, Ahiṃsā, Śānti, Prema: these are man's five prāṇas on this earth. Among the five prāṇas, Prema, if we reckon, is the highest; so grow Prema in your heart.
Teachers!
What the world needs are three main foundations. One is the production of goods. The second is the power of protection, for guarding the goods that are produced. The teacher, who gives the training fit for these two and brings discipline, is the third. In sum, production, the power of protection and the power of training: all three of these are essential to the world. At its root, the people who do the producing are essential. For protection, an army is essential. Those who give higher learning and nourish this production and this power of protection on the best path are the teachers. People have long called them Dakṣaka, Rakṣaka and Śikṣaka. All the special burdens of society rest on these three alone. If even one of them is missing, this institution, or society, and nature can never be complete. Though there is wealth, if there are no soldiers to protect it, all this wealth falls into petty hands and comes only to disgrace. The country falls into poverty. If production declines and the country goes on building up only its army, that army becomes a burden on the world. If there is no teacher to give the right training in production and in protection and to bring discipline, the country simply falls into a blindness.
So these three, all of them, depend on one another. These three are like a three-legged stool. Merely having the three legs does not make this three-legged stool of any use. On these three legs there must be a fine seat. Without this seat, these three legs are useless.
