In plain words
So today all teachers, giving much training at little cost, must turn the children into pure-hearted people. Not only that: we must not enter into fixing of hours. “Going at nine in the morning and coming back at half past four, this is my way”: we must not hold to such a rule. If the need comes, you must stay till night, clear those children's doubts and problems fully, and then come home; this is your duty. Say they have set a problem in some Lab. That problem was not finished in the time set. You must keep that boy right there till that problem is finished, and you must stay right there. You must clear the problem fully and then come home. Teachers must have this determination. That itself is the right teaching. We must teach the way of making children's hearts whole and complete.
So there is no use in merely speaking of the human values, Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and Ahiṃsā. We must try to change the surroundings around them, which are their supports. A small example. We have set out on a plate a meal of five kinds of dishes and pāyasam. There are all the dishes you could want. But if the surroundings have a foul smell, those foods cannot reach our stomach. So along with those foods, we must make the surroundings clean too. Truly, only when there is such a sacred feeling can the courage and daring come to us to achieve in every way and to face anything. Today in the world, when teachers are under the right training, the whole country takes on a sacred form. The children's going astray is down to the parents and the teachers alone. At home the parents lead the children astray. There may be Prema for the children. But that Prema must be such as sets them on the sacred path. If instead your Prema for the children becomes something that makes them behave in an unseemly way, and you give them freedom in it, then later on you yourself will have to suffer, in return, the pain those children bring. In olden times children cherished their mother and father as their own life. They would not leave their parents even for a moment. Then indeed they experienced a mother's Prema and grew with a divine radiance. Today children are ready to leave their parents and go to distant lands. What is the reason for this? This bond between parents and children is not as it should be. So to set them on the right path with proper Prema there must be discipline. There must be Prema. So teachers and parents both are essential to set right the children's condition and set them on the right path.
