In plain words

For this we must grow true humanness. "The proper study of mankind is man," they said. What is this proper study? Thoughts, words, deed: mind, word and work must be one. This is precisely the chief quality of man. This alone is what man must long for today. The writings we write on walls, the shrieks shrieked from platforms, the essays put in this paper: these are not what we need. We need leaders who have morality and integrity. This alone is the right value for management. This management value must rest on our culture alone. We must take our values alone as the basis. If we break up our values and our culture and follow something or other, this is surely a danger to us, sooner or later. So today, along with Production management, along with Finance management, we must develop Individual management too. Indian ethos and values is like a vessel. All the managements I spoke of just now are like the substances. What use is it to produce any number of goods? We hope for more production, but is its value there in this society? Is there use for it in this society, is there benefit from it: this matter too we must recognise. If we keep the vessel small and want water in plenty, how can we get it? If you want more water, make your vessel bigger. If you keep the vessel small and want more water, getting it is not possible. Even if you get it, it spills down. It does not stay with you. So today we must enlarge the vessel. We must make our heart broad. This is the chief thing. We must hold on to divinity without forgetting it. The true basis of humanness.

In every work, prayer must be there, chiefly and without fail. This prayer makes the heart pure. It drives away bad feelings. It makes Ānanda grow. It adds to the strength of our body as well. Only then can we achieve success in our work in every kind of thing. A man in low spirits, a man without strength, cannot achieve any work at all. So man has two eyes, just two: they are morality and integrity. We must make these two one. One eye on this side and one eye on that side: does that see?
