In plain words
Today belief and practice stand apart
Students! Truly, we cannot describe the power and the value of our culture of Bhārata as this or that. We must bring the learning we have studied into practice. All of you know this. In former times men with little schooling managed big, big factories. They had no learning at all. No MBAs. They managed well. They kept a close bond with the workers. If production went up, they were troubled. If production goes up, the value of the goods falls. If that same production goes down, the market comes to a halt. So they kept the right balance and got the work done by the workers. In all things they kept a balance. What learning did they have? For them the chief things were two and only two: fear of sin and love of God. These alone were what they rested on. At times, if they had made money grow by some wrong way, they would build some act of charity, a rest house, a hospital or a school, and hold it as atonement for that sin. They had sacrifice too. Today we keep increasing the production of goods and the earning of money in every way, but sacrifice is nowhere to be seen. Always enjoyment! Today there are big, big officers and big, big managers. Though there are so many of them, if you look carefully, not one is seen to be right. In education we keep increasing intelligence, but character is being lost. For want of it, all these studies are becoming worthless. So we must develop morality and honesty, love of God and fear of sin. In the old days there was a great fear of sin. But today it has turned into a love of sin. So it has not given the country the right atmosphere. It brings harm to the country. We must put into practice the values we have believed in. But today believing seems one thing and practising another. This is not good. In our culture of Bhārata there are many more sayings of this kind. They have shown in practice what shape comes about when one is joined with another. This desire too, if it sets out towards the principle of the infinite, the Infinity, turns into the principle of God.
