In plain words
This is brotherhood of man, fatherhood of god. It is because we have built up all these narrow feelings of caste and religion that we are sinking from humanity to a state lower than the animal. In truth, religions and castes are only what we have made up. The caste of man is one. There is only one caste. The caste of humanity. There is only one language The language of the heart. There is only one religion The religion of love. It is with these three alone that we must go forward. One who thinks, "I belong to such and such a religion, I am a Hindu, a Muslim," we may well call a fool who does not know the principle of religion.
All the religions together have taught only the good; knowing this, you must live with discernment; when minds are good, what religion is bad? Listen, heroic son of Bhārat.
If minds are good, what can religion do? We are spoiling our own minds. One whose mind is spoilt gets admission into a mental hospital, but no admission into the world. Narrow feelings and regional bigotry must not be in us at all. All are one; we are Bhāratīyas. What use are these studies that cannot protect the special worth of the country, its honour and dignity? We must recognise the essence that lies in study. Study is not mere acquaintance with books. This acquaintance with books is energy today. Tomorrow, and the day after, allergy. Nothing comes from acquaintance with books. We must nurture a sacred ideal in the heart. That is true education. Education must not bring us, the people of Bhārat, to the state of taking degrees that weigh on the head and going to every office to beg, "A job for me, a job." We must acquire the divine strength to support our life standing on our own strength, on our own feet. It is by this alone that the divinity in humanity grows.
If you put a seed in the soil and water it, a plant comes up; but if you put it in a tin and water it, it rots. So you must recognise where we should place it and nourish it. The plant called Satya grows when it is set in the soil called the spiritual. The spiritual is essential in every man's heart. It is because the spiritual is lacking that moral value in Bhārat today is sinking lower day by day. There is no respect for mother and father. There is no trust between husband and wife. There is no trust in sons and daughters. What use is a life so full of mistrust? It is like one who is dead while still alive. We must believe the truth that our head, our blood and our food are our parents' gift. To such parents we must give gratitude.
