Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It must be developed from the smallest children on. All who are educated must try to recognise this well.

If we are to spread and teach sacred divine values, we must keep away from the government. Through the government such sacred paths will never succeed. So people with sacred hearts may achieve some such ordinances, some things. The government changes from moment to moment. Then what becomes of our values? What is the fate of these values? We must stand on our own feet and not depend on another's feet. Only when we live in such independence can all sacred values be proclaimed freely.

To achieve this, every noble-minded person who has the resolve must, little by little, take it away from the government; the educated must found a society and through it make the effort needed to spread these Human Values. These vice chancellors too have no freedom of any kind. For they are bound by the government's rules. Those very rules they have to follow. Yet when all these vice chancellors come together in one mind, they can achieve any great work, however great. In the world there is nothing that cannot be achieved with unity. Among these vice chancellors themselves there is no unity. In our colleges themselves we have no unity. Between children and Teachers there is no unity. Between Teachers and Professors there is no unity. How then can we achieve what is called National Integration? First of all, win our own home. Mother, father and children in the home, grow in unity. There is no unity in the home itself. There is no unity in one's own body. Unity in the nation, you could say, is a stunt. I have no faith in it at all. But these vice chancellors are full of longing. They are very good-hearted. But what can they do? For this the government has many kinds of rules. Human values are not in the government's control at all. They can keep a property, or some other law, in their control, but human values are beyond them. The government can take over temples and temple properties. But they cannot take God into their control at all. The government can control man. But they cannot control the qualities of humanness. But they must each develop sacred spiritual feelings in their own students. When moral and spiritual values are brought into students, human values grow naturally. Without these two, if you only say, ‘Grow human values, grow them,’ how is one to grow them?
