Passage 6

In plain words

The evolution of the mind itself is the life of a human being. In this evolution, many kinds of changes and additions keep taking place. That the world holds electric power and atomic power, we learnt only a short time ago. But it is foolishness, is it not, to say that electric power and atomic power do not exist merely because we did not know of them! Today, because man stays at the level of the mind alone, he argues that everything unknown to him does not exist in the world. This is foolishness! No one has any authority at all to say that what is not known does not exist. What we did not know yesterday, we have come to know today. What we do not know today, we may come to know tomorrow. We must strive to know; to say that what we do not know does not exist is great ignorance. When does this ignorance come upon us? Such ignorance envelops the person who has set his sights only on attachment to the body. This is only a defect produced by food.

The human being is truly an embodiment of Saccidānanda!

There is something even more transcendent than this. That has been called the ‘liṅga body’. A human being must journey as far as such a body. This is what is called subtle body. Journeying on step by step, we must reach the state of Ānanda. Ānanda is the foundation of everything. In every object seen in the world today, this Ānanda is present in subtle form. We read the Upaniṣads. We recite the Bhagavad Gītā. We recite the Brahma Sūtras by rote. What change has come about in us? Everything that lacks this change is useless, so, step by step, this evolution must come about in us. However many kinds of sādhana we do, if we stay at the level of the mind alone, what way is there to go further? We must go as far as Super Mind. Only when we enter this transcendent mind can we understand, even to some extent, what the bond and kinship is between the world and the principle of the Paramātma. In truth we are embodiments of Saccidānanda! Our existence goes on always. You say, ‘I exist in the waking state.’
