Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Bodies may change, but the one embodied in them remains unchanging

Embodiments of Prema! We are doing many kinds of sādhana. We say that this whole world is impermanent. We say that this whole world is an illusion. We say that this world is unreal. That is a great mistake. I am real. You are real. This whole world is real! All is made of consciousness! All of this is the very form of the substance of Brahman! Only when we develop this feeling of the one Ātma does divinity come to be understood by us, at least to some extent. If we go on saying in this way, ‘This whole world is unreal, all of it is impermanent, it is Māyā,’ this does nothing but cheat the people. This is wrong. It does not stand the test of truth. But in this unreal world, why these unreal teachings of yours? Then that too turns unreal, doesn't it, after all! No, no, this is real! ‘Satyasya satyam’: this is the real within the real. It is not the real within the unreal. It is not the unreal within the real. When we recognise this Satya in the world, a fitness arises to recognise the Satya that is within us. The world is real! Forms may change, things may change, bodies may change to some extent, but the embodied one remains unchanging. This is the evolution that comes about through the change of things; but there is one Satya that is the foundation of all things. That is ‘Asti bhāti priyaṃ’. That is ‘Sat-Cit-Ānanda’. That is ‘Satyaṃ Śivaṃ Sundaraṃ’.

Our journey must continue from the divine mind to Saccidānanda

Taking the changing body as the basis, one must not say that the whole world is unreal, that the whole world is untrue, that the whole world is Māyā. How can it be Māyā? It has come forth only from the substance of consciousness, from the substance of Brahman itself. For the delight of children, in the market they make sugar toys of parrots, birds, animals and many other kinds. One may want one of them and suck on it. Another may be under the illusion that it is a bird, and suck on that bird. Someone else may think of it in some other way and suck on it. Those names and forms keep changing, but what everyone sucks on is the very form of sugar!
