Passage 3

In plain words

When we go deep into society and look into it, what is needed today is wealth, power, worldly riches and enjoyments; apart from these, man gives thought to nothing else at all. The feeling that wealth alone lifts man up has grown beyond measure among these people. That itself is the main cause of the rooting out of humanness. This wealth does not nourish us. This very wealth does not protect us. Wealth is needed; but with limited wealth we must lead a beneficial life. Today, in service and in organisations of every other kind, pomp and Ahaṅkāra have reached a high level. So long as there is pomp, the principle of the Ātma is not understood. Without understanding this principle of the Ātma, man cannot make humanness blossom. Without making humanness blossom in himself, he is no man at all. The idea is made plain to the world that one may call him a man in form, but not a man exalted in the Ātma. So the chief thing in service is sacrifice. As for this feeling of sacrifice, Ahaṅkāra must first of all be sacrificed.

To give up a wicked feeling from one's feelings: that is renunciation; that itself is yoga. It is not leaving wealth and wife and going off to the forest.

It is because there are no people to teach the chief principles of our sacred Bhāratīya culture to the people in their right meaning that society is going astray in this way. The feeling that we are serving someone else is a great mistake. The high and holy feeling must arise: "I am serving the Paramātma Himself in that form." We must develop the faith that God is in every person.

Revile others, and the fruit of sin comes to you; it never leaves you, anywhere in the universe. Others are not others; they are the Paramātma.

So we must not hurt anyone at all. We must not revile anyone. That is merely the nature of your own bad qualities. It is the folly of making known oneself the bad qualities lying hidden and suppressed within oneself. When you point out the faults of others with one finger, others stand ready to point out ten faults in you. No one who has recognised this truth can revile others.
