In plain words
This is outward cleanliness. It is not only this much. We must purify our citta too. We must purify our feelings. That is why there is what is called inner and outer purity. How can we bring about this inner purity? We can wash off and wipe away the dirt outside. But how can we know the dirt that is within? How can we see it? How can we make it clean? There is only one right way for this, just one. If we develop the faith that what dwells in every being, in every creature, in all living things from worms and insects onward, is God Himself, this purity of citta comes. Īśāvāsyam: the One who dwells in everything is God Himself. Only when we recognise this Satya well and act on it do we become those who have purified the citta. Divinity, whose nature is unbroken Saccidānanda, is present everywhere. Within it, who can decide which is good and which is bad? If we set out to decide that this is good and this is bad, it becomes possible to decide good and bad only when there is some second thing besides it. But there is no second thing here. So how can we decide that this is good and that is bad? When one enquires in this way, the ignorant imagine that there is a second thing. That is identification with the body. Only when he thinks that this body is a second thing does he enter into judging good and bad, saying this is bad and that is good. But no one can call Divinity good or bad. No one can decide it.
A small example. There is a clay vessel. There is a wooden vessel. There is a copper vessel. There is a brass vessel. There is a silver vessel. When we fill all these vessels to the brim with water, the one sun shines in all the vessels. How can you decide that the sun in one vessel is bad and the sun in another vessel is good? You can give the vessels their proper value. This clay vessel is worth very little; this gold vessel is worth a great deal. In this way it is possible to put a price on them, but how is it possible to put a price on the sun reflected in them, or to decide whether it is good or bad? What is good or bad here? The vessels belong to Prakṛti. This sun belongs to the highest truth. That is why the vessels are bad. The sun is good. The sun is an infinite ocean of Prema. The jīva is the embodiment of Prema. Without the vessel, the water cannot stand. Without the water we cannot see the sun's reflection.
