Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Our discipline should not be like that. Just as your shadow follows you, our discipline stays right with us. It should be like our shadow. Stay here. Go to the market. Go to the bazaar, go home, go anywhere else. Your shadow comes along with you, doesn't it! In the same way this discipline must stay right with us. This is the discipline that is Satya. All that you display now is artificial discipline. I do not ask for a show. I ask for proof. Even a little. There must be the essence that gives it its true value. So keep right feeling in your conduct, in your words, in your actions, in everything. You yourselves will be the better for it. This is true education. Without this education, however many worldly educations you gain, however much you study, there is no use. You may earn some money. You may gain worldly comforts. But who will give Śānti of mind? For man, Śānti is the most important thing. Every day you keep saying it, in bhajan or anywhere else. ‘Śānti Śānti Śāntiḥ’: what is the inner meaning of saying it three times? Śānti for the body, Śānti for the mind, Śānti for the Ātma. This is the Śānti needed three times. And how must even that be? That too must stay calm. Śānti must stay Śānti. ‘Śānti Śānti Śśāntiḥ’: it should go like this; but if there is anger even in this Śānti, ‘Śānti Śānti Śānti’, then where will you find Śānti? So, all these P.hd children, take due care and make proper arrangements to go gradually back to your own places. For this, the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor must take the proper action in due course.
