In plain words
Do not betray yourself. ‘Blessed is he who goes his way without hurting others and without being hurt himself, O Vēmā!’ they said. We must seek the way by which you too come to no loss, you hurt no one else, you too do not fall, and you let no one else fall. That is why Prahlāda said, ‘To seek out the path is the noble wisdom.’ Which path to seek? We need not seek anew. It is just seeking the path by which we came. Where did we come from? We came from the Ātma. We must go back to that place. We must look to that very path. But today the place we came from is one. We are journeying to another place. That is why our life is falling into great hardship. We must seek the path by which we came. This is the teaching I give you today. This is a twelve-syllable mantra. ‘Trōva vetukukonuṭa doḍḍa buddhi’: twelve syllables. Seek that path. The Swami whose grace you have pushed away, the Swami whose Prema you have pushed away, the Swami whose heart you have hurt: seek what it takes to reach that Prema, that grace, that place.
I am never unhappy. Always happy. But there is pain at the thought that these children are being ruined like this. Give happy to those who have no happy. Other than that, I don't need your happy for My sake. For many, a birthday comes. They say, Happy birthday, happy birthday. All the foreigners, poor things. I keep telling them. I am always happy. I don't need your happy. Give happy to those who have no happy. What are you doing now? Your parents have no happy. You have no happy either. Those around you have no happy. Why should we live such a life. Go anywhere and be happy. Give happy to your parents. For having stayed here so long, do at least this one good turn for your parents. All you students, keep good discipline, do not consent to evil, respect your elders, show karuṇā to the younger, and cultivate right maitrī towards your equals. This is maitrī, karuṇā, muditā, upekṣā. These four are the fourfold puruṣārthas. If you make these puruṣārthas truly fruitful, your very birth becomes fruitful. But cultivate a feeling of equality with one another, with those who are your equals. Do not cultivate hatreds. Do not cultivate jealousy. Do not play showy dramas. Give no room to Ahaṅkāra. Be humble and obedient. ‘Vidyā vinaya sampanne’: there is no humility at all. You display it only when you come to Prasanthi Nilayam. Because of yesterday's telling, how was it last night? The whole hostel is quiet. Conditions like this last only a day or two.
