Passage 8

In plain words

This is not your strength. It is the power of God alone that, as the inner voice and the inner strength, makes you dance in this way. Once, Arjuna, who had won the Gāṇḍīva, boasted in many ways: “All this I achieved by my own strength; by my own strength I won victory in the war.” After Kṛṣṇa left His body, while Arjuna was bringing all the women of the palace from Dvārakā to Hastināpura, the forest herdsmen stopped him on the way. He could not even string the Gāṇḍīva. Then he recognised the Satya about himself. Chī! What a fool I am. That I was like this all this time was nothing but Kṛṣṇa's gift of grace. I was only an instrument. ‘Nimittamātraṃ bhava savyasāci’, He Himself said. “In the war I made you My instrument,” He said.

So every human being is only an instrument. But while doing his own duty, he must leave the burden to God. ‘Effort and striving are man's Dharma. Success and failure rest with God’: with this too in mind, we must never think, ‘I, I am doing this.’ We must believe only this: God within me, the embodiment of the Ātma, makes me dance in this way and makes me act. Where there is faith, there is Prema. Where there is Prema, there is Śānti. Where there is Śānti, there is Satya. Where there is Satya, there is God. Where there is God, there is Ānanda. The last is Ānanda. The first is faith. Ānanda comes only to those who have faith; to those without faith Ānanda does not come. So, chanting the name of God, ever developing faith in the Ātma, grow the principle of Prema within your hearts.
