Whatever sounds you make, those very sounds turn and come back to you. So do not revile anyone. Do not blame anyone. Do not hurt anyone. The world too will give you happiness and joy and bring you up to progress.’ Good and bad are nothing but your own feelings; they are not anything else. Reflection of the inner being. Each thing comes from you alone. Reaction, reflection, resound.
Let students recognise this Satya and Be good, Do good, See good. This is the way to God. Neither in students nor in ordinary people should we think any word, look or hearing to be bad. First of all, along with our studies, we must nourish Viveka and science too. Today we are developing science, but we do not have the Viveka fit for that science. Science without Viveka is a great danger. With atomic power we are creating so much. Through it we are wasting many crores of units of current. Through it we make bombs and invent machines that harm the world. If that same science were enquired into on the path of Viveka and put into production, how many crops could be grown! How many things useful to the people could be created! We must put this science into work that is of benefit to the world, and never into what harms the world. The maharṣis Viśvāmitra, Vaśiṣṭha and Jamadagni held mantras filled with many powers. But they all used them well, with Viveka. That is why the power of the ṛṣis is Jñāna. Today's power of books is only a kind of learning. You may be learned, but you are not jñānīs. The learned man who masters his senses is the jñānī. The learned man who lets his senses loose as they please is not a jñānī. He is only a learned man. This is merely bookish knowledge. This knowledge, this cleverness, this brain power does not last long. Students! Enquire, after the examinations, into all the study you pursue only for the examinations: not a bit of it is remembered. If after the examinations you do not remember your studies, all your powers of learning turn to vapour within a short time.
