The first is M. Its meaning is Mind of man. What does Man mean? Man means mind. What does mind mean? Mind means Man. Why should we say Mind of man? But here, man and animal may both have a mind. There may be an evil mind. There may be a Devil mind. So what a manager must have is a Man mind. He must have a mind that belongs to a man. The mind is nothing but a bundle of resolves. Actions are the fruit of resolves. The joys and sorrows we go through in our daily life are the outcome of these actions; the root cause of the joys and sorrows we go through in our daily life is our actions alone. The cause of these actions is resolves alone. So only when resolves are good will actions be good. Only when actions are good does happiness come to us. So man must first of all make an inquiry: what actions, what resolves should he develop? I am a man; I am not an animal. So I must first of all decide what kind of bundle of resolves I, as a man, should have. So what a man must have is the very quality of humanness. Besides qualities such as Satya, Prema, forbearance, sacrifice and sympathy, a man's actions must be such that there is the unity of the three: thoughts, words, action. Only when there are such qualities and such action is one fit to call oneself a man. The very first letter in Manager is M; that same mind of man we must develop.
Then the second is A. Awareness of Atma. That is its meaning. Awareness, Ātma. Ātma, awareness. But why should we call it awareness of atma? Within this awareness there are many levels. When you say, "That is snake," it is as though you say with full awareness that it is a snake. If you think, "Snake or rope," it is as though there is doubt. When you think, "Rope or snake," this too is not full awareness. Awareness is perfect knowing. When you see this fully, you say, "It is a hand kerchief." So you all say. But if I ask of it, "What is this?" (keeping it covered), what can you say? You say, "It is a piece of cloth." So this is not awareness. It is like knowing a little. If you know something more or less, that is not the right meaning of the word awareness. To understand fully in all respects and to recognise: that alone is the right meaning of the word awareness.
