In plain words
So today we are wasting our time with Bookish knowledge, superficial knowledge and General knowledge alone. All the dhyāna done today is superficial dhyāna. So said Anil Kumar. Sitting in dhyāna, what are you meditating on? Many people are developing restlessness in many ways. They sit in meditation. To the wife: Hey, has the washerman brought the clothes? Then the whole smell comes and keeps gathering in the kitchen. Hey, the fry is all getting burnt, see to it. Is this meditation? He sits there steady. But in a minute the mosquitoes have bitten him. Meditation is not this. All this can be called merely a kind of concentration. Where the mosquito is settling, where the ant is biting, what is happening to the cooking, whether my shirt has been ironed: watching all these is a kind of concentration. This concentration is joined with below sense. This reading, writing, walking, talking, eating, driving: all of these too must have concentration. Without this concentration man cannot live even for a moment. So they say they are doing meditation for the sake of this concentration. For this concentration no meditation is needed. It is a way of life. This concentration is something natural. Why should we waste time on it? Concentration is below senses. Meditation is beyond senses. If you are to travel from below senses to beyond senses, a big border comes in between. The name of that border is contemplation. Concentration, contemplation, meditation: to cross this contemplation is very hard. Only after this concentration has settled very deep in us can we cross this contemplation to some extent. This becomes a big problem. Meditation is not something tied up with so many kinds of problems; easy path, transendental meditation: they are giving meditation still many more names. For no one is it possible to hold the mind on one single thing. All work must be done only with concentration.
So what I mean is this: do any work. Go to the office. Do your duty. See to the kitchen. See to your responsibility for the children. However many things you see to, work will be transformed into worship; that is meditation. Whatever work you do, do it to please God. That is meditation. Whatever work you do, do it to please God. That is meditation. All karma to please God; without that, if you divide it, ‘This is mine, this is God's’, that is very dangerous. So we must not divide the two.
