In plain words
In every circumstance they kept Kṛṣṇa in front. First God, next world. last I. They put the "I" last. But what did the Kauravas do? First I, next world last God. All the Pāṇḍavas kept Kṛṣṇa in front and entered the war. That is why victory came to them. The Kauravas put Kṛṣṇa behind. It was all defeat. The Kauravas were a hundred brothers. Not a single head survived. The Pāṇḍavas were only five. All of them were safe. What is the reason? They went with God in front. So God leads them forward. That is why they enjoyed real Ānanda. They won the victory. Keep God in front, and go on with your studies, your work, your duties, your karma. But do not go keeping Him behind. With you, beside you, in your home, before your eyes. That is most essential for the children of today.
The youth of today are the citizens of tomorrow. The citizens of tomorrow are the basis of this country's good and ill. To guard the country's prosperity, it is the students who have the fitting strength. So students must grow up with good qualities, with pure conduct, as those who give their parents the joy that is their due. Why must you give your parents joy today? So that you may enjoy joy in the future. As the feeling, so the result. He who causes his parents pain today will himself be made to suffer by his own children tomorrow. Tomorrow your son will kick you. So if we honour our parents today, tomorrow our children will honour us. Whatever seed we sowed, that kind of tree alone springs up. So if we want to do well later, we must give due respect today. Why must we respect them? Your blood, your food, head, money: your parents gift. It is all the parents'. If we fail to respect such parents, we are demons; such a one is equal to a dead man. Living death. Though he lives, he is equal to a dead man. So, if not today, tomorrow at least he will reap that result himself. Children, keep this well in mind. Live in this way, and give your parents the joy that is their due. That is what Swami wants. You need not look at Swami at all. If you make your parents happy, it is as good as making Me happy. Let your mother be God to you, let your father be God to you, let your teacher be God to you, let your guest be God to you. If we make our parents happy, we become those who have made the whole world happy. Why did Rāma go to the forest. He went to keep his father's word. You see! He bowed his head to his father's command. A man without a head, that one is Ghaṭotkaca. One who lived for food. So live for not living. Beasts and birds also live. Education should be for life not for living. You must set yourselves that kind of goal.
