Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Brain power is something that has … a gross form in the body. It is the chief centre of all the nerves. It is like a Control room. So we must not link the heart with Buddhi. Buddhi belongs neither to the physical body nor to the physical world. It is joined with the Ātma. It is a form that is eternal, true and … .

The third is saṃskāra. Saṃskāra, which matters most for man: today in the world we think it means … of life. It is not. It is not as easy as that. Joined with moral conduct, holding to … and reflection, joined with tradition, this saṃskāra is the … formed of good ways of conduct. Man’s chief conduct shows itself in this. If conduct … is lacking, our life does not flourish at all. Such conduct must be joined with Manas and Buddhi. There must also be the power to examine … matters. We must have learnt to tell what is of worth from what does harm. Only when it is joined with … kind of sacred Jñāna, and with Manas and Buddhi joined with truth, does it take shape as saṃskāra. We must reflect that the Ātma is the form in which Manas, Buddhi and saṃskāra are blended.

Today many kinds of change are taking place for man. … , economic and cultural changes are taking place. But a change in the mind is … not taking place. However many changes take place, if there is no change in the mind, all of them are meaningless … . That is why man today falls prey to so many sorrows. ‘My troubles are not ending! My hardships are not ending, God has no mercy on me!’ we grieve. There is a fine example of this in the Rāmāyaṇa.

After Hanumān had made friends with Vibhīṣaṇa, in the course of some talk Vibhīṣaṇa said to Hanumān, ‘Hanumān, though you are a vānara, you have become worthy of God’s grace. Though I spend my days constantly thinking of Rāma, why have I not attained Rāma? What is the reason that Rāma’s grace does not come?’ he said. Hanumān: ‘Vibhīṣaṇa! You constantly repeat Rāma’s Name. True. But how far do you take part in Rāma’s work? Just by dwelling on Rāma’s Name, Rāma’s grace will not be yours. You must enter into Rāma’s work as well. When your brother Rāvaṇa carried off the wife of Rāma, the God you worship, what help of any kind did you give her? Did you take any part in this, to lessen that Rāma’s grief even a little?
