In plain words

Holding the agratāmbūla in his hand, he was wondering to whom he should give it. Very many great sages were in the assembly; the best of teachers, Droṇācārya, Kṛpācārya, Bhīṣmācārya, were all there. Yet the noblest of all was Bhīṣma. The agratāmbūla could have been given to him, could it not? No. No. The wish was to offer it only to that great Kṛṣṇa, their dearest one. The support of life is Kṛṣṇa alone. Our highest goal is Kṛṣṇa alone. Our very life-breath is Kṛṣṇa alone. Apart from Him no one else is seen in this world. With these thoughts he called Kṛṣṇa, washed His feet and gave Him the agratāmbūla. The wicked and the evil do not think with so much wisdom. They follow only the outward sight and outward feelings. They display their personal hatreds and jealousies. A feeling for the whole is empty in them. There is no broad feeling that says, 'Just because I do not like it, may others not like it?' There are narrow cittas like this. In so great an assembly Śiśupāla stood up. It was not some barking off here or there: all the Pāṇḍavas were there in person. A great assembly was in session. Among so many ṛṣis he reviled Kṛṣṇa just as he liked. 'Why give the tāmbūla to Kṛṣṇa?

For stealing the saris of the young women as they bathed, is it for that you get worship? The day you frolicked in the water with the lovely cowherd girls, is arghya offered for the delight you took? Enough now, put away your almanac; do not go on praising; stop, shut your mouth.

Shut up,' he said. At this Dharmaja's mind was deeply pained. 'Speaking so many kinds of insults against my embodiment of Prema, against God, who is equal to my very life, in the assembly!' he thought, and he was deeply pained within himself. As this deserved, Kṛṣṇa threw at Śiśupāla that very plate on which the agratāmbūla had been given. People speak of some Sudarśana cakra. It was not a discus. It was the very plate on which the tāmbūla had been given. That very plate went like a discus and severed Śiśupāla's neck. Just because the neck was severed, Dharmaja was glad; but at once all the blood spurted from that neck and fell on Kṛṣṇa's feet, and the light that was Śiśupāla's life merged in Kṛṣṇa.
