Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It comes as a reaction to what you did; but for God there is neither action nor reaction. For such a God there is no such thing as liking one thing and disliking another. There is no punishing or protecting. All this punishing and protecting is only the effect of our own conduct. So no one has the authority to judge God in this way: He is doing this, He is looking at things like this, He drew only those near in this way, He did not draw these near. Who has the authority to lay down that God must be this way or that? The divinity that is in all may act in every kind of way. Yet because it is free of selfishness, there is no fault in it. Because it is perfect Prema, there is no change of any kind. That is why God has titles of many kinds. Nirguṇaṃ nirañjanaṃ sanātanaṃ niketanaṃ nitya śuddha buddha mukta nirmala svarūpiṇaṃ. God is the One who dwells in every kind of sacred thing. What decides 'This is impure, this is pure' is in your sight, not in God. Yad bhāvaṃ tad bhavati. Whatever colour of glasses you put on, the whole world looks just that colour. It is not the fault of creation; it is the fault of your sight.

Our thinking that the senses are doing something wrong is only the fault of our own feelings. If you develop right feelings, the senses give the right meaning. Look at Tukārām. Holding a good feeling within himself, he took even the wrong his wife did as something good. Kabīr spent all his time in thought of God, and that is why he took what his wife did as good. Einstein, having an even mind, carried on his sādhana with a pure heart, so he too went on bringing what his wife did into harmony. So we must practise the sādhanas that bring harmony within ourselves. Yet some stubborn people keep saying, 'God has given all our senses facing outward, so the fault is His, not ours.' 'God gave the eyes, but He set their doors facing outward; He did not set them facing in. God gave the ears; He set them toward the world, not toward the inside. He gave the nose; He told it to take in only the outer breath, and said no to the inner breath. So the fault is in creation itself. 'This is not our fault': in that way they make it fit.
