Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

all is Kṛṣṇa. The sky is Kṛṣṇa. All the five elements are Kṛṣṇa. To make divinity recognised…, Vallabhācārya went on doing it himself, experiencing it himself and teaching it to others. In this way he went on teaching Madhura Bhakti. Bhakti is of six kinds. Sakhya Bhakti, dāsya Bhakti, anurāga Bhakti, vātsa… Bhakti, Madhura Bhakti. Madhura Bhakti is the last of them all. Madhura Bhakti means to regard God as one's husband and … daivamunanu as one who is dedicated. You alone are everything. There is no need to ask for more than this. Of the nine kinds of Bhakti, this itself is the very last. Śravaṇaṃ, kīrtanaṃ, Viṣṇu-smaraṇaṃ, pāda-sēvanaṃ, vandanaṃ, arca…, dāsyaṃ, snēhaṃ: these eight, they said, are the secondary kinds of Bhakti. Secondary Bhakti means Bhakti that belongs to the world. Ātma…vēdanaṃ, they said, is true Bhakti. It is the very act of offering up. If you drop a drop of water from your hand into the ocean, this drop and the ocean take on one form. If you keep that same drop with you, within ten … it turns into vapour. You think of yourself as small. Do not waste it. Merge it in the endless ocean that is Prema. Then the two are gone, and they become one. The Kṛṣṇā goes and joins the ocean. The Yamunā goes and joins the ocean. The Gaṅgā goes and joins the ocean. Once they have joined it, there is no bringing back the Kṛṣṇā, the Yamunā, the Gaṅgā. Becoming one, …. If you offer up your life to God, the two become one.

Here, there, wherever one looks, the one Kṛṣṇa alone is …. Wherever I look, it is nothing but Kṛṣṇa's Prema. There is no place where Kṛṣṇa is not. All is His own svarūpa. Vallabha went on teaching that principle. On no occasion, in no circumstances whatever, did any feeling of difference arise in Vallabhācārya…. Even when worldly hardships befell him, he went on teaching others that all this is Kṛṣṇa's mercy itself. Everyone came together and went on urging Vallabhācārya to marry. Vallabhācārya questioned them. 'Marriage for whom?' he said. 'For you,' they said. 'For me it is already done,' he said. How was it done? God and I, the two are one. It came from the aṃśa itself. It has merged in the aṃśa. Only when you think you are separate from God is marriage needed. At … a time, why marriage? In this way he went on teaching Madhura Bhakti. Śaṅkara taught the doctrine of Advaita; Vallabhācārya taught the doctrine of full Madhura Bhakti. More than Śaṅkarācārya, valla more than Rāmānujācārya, Vallabhācārya's influence went on growing among the Vaiṣṇavas. Where this Vallabhācārya went after completing … work, no one knows. Such are the principles of the exemplary ….

When unrighteousness, unbelief, show and adulteration grow in the world,
