Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

How sacred the bond of guru and disciple in Bhārata used to be in ancient times! In this modern age, freedom. What is this freedom? Freedom must certainly be given. It must be given only as far as is due, and no further.

The end of wisdom is freedom. The end of culture is perfection The end of knowledge is Love The end of education is character

We must shape them well in this way; but if we just give them freedom, in the end they become deaf and dumb. Whatever you say, they do not listen; they answer nobody's word. In this way they become full of Ahaṅkāra and overstep every limit.

Remember God; love the country:

Students, embodiments of Prema! I hope that you will give the country a fitting ideal. Gaining degrees is not what matters. You must practise this and pass it on to others. This is the very bond of true education. This is the very aim of true education. Keeping this aim in view, as you speak the truth, you must see that no harm comes to another through Satya, just because you are speaking Satya. Through this Satya, no harm in any way must come to others. 'Satyaṃ brūyāt priyaṃ brūyāt na brūyāt satyamapriyaṃ.' Do not speak Asatya because it is pleasing. Do not harm others because it is Satya. If a situation arises where harm would come to someone through this Satya, then no Satya and no Asatya. Stand quite. You must earn fitness of this kind. In whatever work you do, you must see that no harm comes to others. Above all, in the conditions of today, you must cultivate love of the country well. You must serve the country. We must look after the security of the country. We must long for the progress of society. In all of this, you alone are what matters. Only when the individual is good will the home be good. Only when the family is good will the village be good. Only when the villages are good will the districts be good. Only when the districts are good will the state be good.
