Passage 5

In plain words

Celebrating birthdays is no greatness. We must try to understand the divine feelings of those born for a purpose and live by them.

We must foster the principle of Prema:

We must foster the principle of Prema. We must turn the whole of life into Prema. In the Dvāpara Yuga, the beings who all came together, fostered the principle of Prema and drank deep of Ānanda were the gopikās. Life without Prema is wasted. Man is the embodiment of Prema. We must turn this Prema into the very form of Satya. This Prema itself is the life-breath of man. Embodiments of the divine Ātma! Regarding the divine principle of God as Prema, we must take part in service to society with Prema. We must develop the special greatness of Bhārata. Bhārata has held the seat of teacher to every country. Other countries turn to Bhārata for peace and security. It is a misfortune that such people of Bhārata cannot themselves recognise the principle of Bhārata. The history of the people of Bhārata is the very image of the divine Satya that is the root and the support of the physical world, the world of living beings, the realm of the mind and the life of society. Such a history of Bhārata we can reflect only in the field of a divine and pure heart. We keep dedicating our lives ceaselessly to these two alone, the physical and the worldly. However many such physical pleasures there are, what is the use? We must understand the principle of the Ātma and develop divinity. However much we study, however many offices we hold, if that divine and expansive principle of Prema is not in us, all these are simply useless. We must develop good qualities.

With little virtue and great learning, what fruit is there, and what is he worth? Though there are ten acres of land that yield no crop, a little good land is enough.

When the principle of Prema, with its breadth of heart, is not in us, however much learning, however much authority, however much of anything we have, what is the use?
