In plain words
Everything has come to birth in the land of Bhārata. So, since you are born as Bhāratīyas, the whole duty of protecting the Dharma of Mother Bhārata is yours alone, devotees! To protect the good fortune of this land of Bhārata, every devotee, too, must take a firm vow.
As the elephant does not know its own strength, so have our people of Bhārata become today.
Because the people of Bhārata, endowed with every power, cannot recognise their own nature, we are caught like an elephant held in check by a single mahout. We must rid ourselves of such weakness.
The land of great souls:
Bhārata is the land where many great souls were born.
Winning fame in land after land and continent after continent, the motherland that bore such great souls; having driven out the Western warriors, the battlefield that won its independence; having won great renown for learning, the land of Bharata that showed its brilliance; in music, in literature and in the sciences the divine land that showed the power of intellect.
Born though we are in such a sacred, divine land, it is nothing but misfortune that we cannot recognise this divine sacredness.
What feeling is as sweet as the one our land holds? What is more worthy of honour than the feeling for one's mother?
Born in the motherland, we cannot love the mother country with this feeling for a mother. We must love our country. We must wish for the country's welfare. We must dedicate our lives to the good of the country. For this, unity is needed. We celebrate the birthdays of great souls, but we make no attempt at all to follow the words of the great souls.
