Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We enjoy only two, and if even in these two so much power is spread through the world, then if we were to use the energy of all three thousand, how brilliantly the world would blaze! So if a single ray of God's grace comes to us, we can achieve anything at all. The great ṛṣis of that age went on praying, Grant us even an atom of Your rays. If we gain even a little of God's power, we can achieve the infinite. Without God's grace, no one can achieve anything. If it has no wish to fly, even a vulture cannot go forward an inch. If it makes the effort to walk, even an ant goes some miles. Effort is essential.

Effort and striving are the dharma of man; victory and defeat are in the hands of God.

So go forward, resting on God. Everything is success. Success begets success. If we want to achieve everything, we must win grace.

Students! Our Vice-Chancellor put a very big question today. How is the human being to reach Divinity? How is he to experience it? How is he to attain it? It is a big question, but if one wishes to answer it, the answer can be given in a snap of the fingers. We do not need to do sādhana. Gajendra went on fighting the crocodile for thousands of years. With what did he go on fighting? He tried to win by the strength of his arm, by the strength of his body. As long as we try to win with this ego, with strength of arm, strength of intellect, strength of wealth and strength of mind, we cannot gain any victory at all. At the last he grew weary.

Other than You I know no one beyond; You must forgive this wretched one. Come, O Īśvara, protect me, O Giver of boons, save me, O Auspicious One!

I can do nothing more at all. When he surrendered, saying, I have no one but You, he was saved. Arjuna too, at the time of the great war, used all his intelligence and went on pouring down a shower of questions through the first chapter and the second chapter up to the eleventh śloka.
