In plain words
The wickedness in society must be wiped away. Before that, you must see that the wickedness is not in you. When the broom is very filthy, how is the room to be cleaned with it? If we want to clean our room, the broom we sweep with must be clean. In the same way, when you want to set others right, you must first rid yourself of your own evil feelings.
When we do our duty well, it is God who gives victory and defeat
Today games, songs and speeches have all turned into a field of business. No, no: we began these games for our own growth, for the growth of our joy, for our health. Everyone played the games together in unity. But there must be no selfishness in this. Do your duty well. It is God who gives victory and defeat.
Effort and striving are man's Dharma; victory and defeat are in the hands of God.
‘I must reach the highest place, I must win’: the determination, the joy, the hard work and the earnestness with which you work for that, that same earnestness, that devotion, that hard work, that order, you must bring into every field. To want to win only in games is a very narrow feeling. We must come to a broad feeling. As you win in games, in the same way you must win in life too. As you got 1st marks in the class, above everyone, in the same way you must be 1st in the ideal of life too. You must win the prize called the grace of God. These come and they go. ‘Bahumati’ is a very strange word. Even with one mind man falls into many plights. If he has many minds, what will become of him? When he is of many minds, there is no need to say what will become of him. These are not the prizes we must gain. It is through a single mind that one must attain the infinite.
