Passage 13

In plain words

He used all his intelligence. How far does that intelligence go? Only so far: only as far as man goes. All the stock he had kept for so long was used up, poor Arjuna. He had no more words at all. He folded his hands. He said, “Kariṣye vacanaṃ tava.” He said, “I shall do as You command.”

Fix your mind on Me, be My devotee, worship Me, bow down to Me; so joined to Me, devoted to Me, with Me as your goal, you will come to Me alone.

He said, “Now go forward; I shall see to it.” So all these things are easily understood only when we offer them to God. We can achieve everything easily. Neither the sādhakas of today nor the devotees of today go so far as to offer themselves. We are doing it like a shareholders' business. They say, “My share is half and Yours is half; let us put the two together and do business. I shall do the work I do; You give the grace You give.” In this way they start a trade. They make a partnership. This business will never do. You must offer yourself. He Himself will see to everything. I said this in Kodaikanal. As long as they are in Swami's presence, as long as they listen to Swami's talks, as long as they are in Swami's atmosphere, the children's hearts are very pure, very joyful and full of zest. But the moment they go out of this atmosphere, all this goes on changing. What is the reason for this? The body is made of clay. A small example. There is a clay mug. When you pour water into that clay mug and put it in a place where no one touches it, within two days three inches of the water are absorbed. The clay sucks it up. If you fill that mug full of water and then set the mug back in water again, the water inside does not go down by even an atom. What happens today is that students are like clay mugs. Even though we fill them full with spirituality, by the time they go into an atmosphere with no spirituality around it, all this goes down to some extent. Even when we go there, if we create spirituality around us, what we have learned within will have no chance to go down at all. So here there is good company, and there bad company. There too we must join good company. Only when we do good deeds does our Bhakti stay without changing, without scattering, without wavering at all. It is not enough merely to say mantras with the mouth.
