In plain words
A small example: the light of a “hurricane lantern” spreads up to ten yards. You cannot leave that lantern in one place and travel 10 miles in the dark. So you must make that lantern travel along with you. Then you can travel however far it may be. In the same way, you must make the faith in God that is in you travel along with you.
Why has humanness come to us? Not merely to live life like cattle, birds, beasts and the rest. Why are we studying? Why do we hope to rise to a high position? Only to offer an ideal. We must experience Ānanda, share it with many, and give it to the world. This is the ideal. Students especially must recognise this. You must not strain merely after selfishness and self-interest; you must make your heart broad. That is true Prema. Our Prema must not be narrow; it must be broad. That principle of Prema itself is Divinity. If we light that flame of Prema, we can gain Ānanda. You should not be a lover. You yourself must become Prema. If you are a lover, you can love one or two. But if you yourself are Prema, you can love this whole world. So you must become full of Prema. You must rid yourself of the Ajñāna called Ahaṅkāra. This Ahaṅkāra itself is the root cause of unrest of every kind. If you wish to gain Ānanda, you must immerse yourself in Prema and light the flame of Prema.
