In plain words
This is not what has to be done. Only when you are one, put all these machines far away and sacrifice in every way will true fearlessness come to you. Even Churchill, whose heart was stone, came in the end to think deeply. In the British war, when bodies fell everywhere, he walked over the bodies in his boots, without the least fear! Such a man came in the end to recognise clearly the power of these bombs, the atom bomb and the hydrogen bomb. At last he grieved, ‘Man is coming to know everything, but he does not know himself.’ In this same sense Prahlāda too spoke. He went to his father: “Father!
You have conquered all the worlds in a moment, yet the host of the senses and the citta you cannot conquer.”
What is the use? Prahlāda was a little student. Hiraṇyakaśipu was a scientist of great power. The scientists of today would be blown away if Hiraṇyakaśipu said so much as ‘phoo’. What research Hiraṇyakaśipu did! How many things he achieved! This little boy put such a question to a scientist like that. With it, all his science turned senseless. Science is not great; our sense is great. Science is going up. But our sense is going to ruin. So sense must be sent up. Science must be trodden underfoot. This science too is very great, but it has a limit. When the measure is crossed, everything goes mad.
All of you know how famous Russia was! It reached the highest place in the world. But today it has broken into pieces, and there is no food to eat in that country. Now they live by selling weapons to Muslim states. I said it many years ago. ‘It is not a Communist kingdom; come you next,’ I said. One day they too will come here. Today they are falling completely in this way.
