Passage 27

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

There is no birth lower than this. Earn grace; do not become the object of wrath! Do not take the wrong road; grow good feelings! It does not matter even if you have no studies. In your various subjects, all your professors give ‘O’ grade. But only if you pass in My subject is it the true ‘O’ grade. Get ‘O’ grade in My subject, and then you will surely get ‘O’ grade in every subject. This one is zero, that one is zero. With Me too you take a zero. What those professors give is a zero. But there they have changed the words. There they call it ‘O’ grade. Here they call it zero grade. The shape is the same. With Me too, get ‘O’ grade; I am ready to give it. But you are not ready to take it. Be good. Not one but any number of zeros I will give, I Myself. With Me, a zero means a big round nought. The whole world is round. If you take ‘O’ grade from Swami, the whole world will give you ‘O’ grade.

There is one more thing I must tell the children. By the time they reach B.A., B.Sc. IIIrd yr, or M.A., M.Sc., MBA IInd yr, who knows what gets into these children, but their śraddhā and Bhakti dwindle. What is the reason? ‘This one year is all we are here, after all; next year we will not be here.’ Such neglect is the very thing that brings a great sin after you. In truth, a different kind of feeling should come to you: a good feeling should come, with the pain, ‘This is the IIIrd yr, now I shall be going away; this is the IInd yr, I shall be going away.’ There should be that kind of attachment: ‘How can I leave Swami and go?’ ‘One month, one month,’ they rejoice. This is not joy; it is a great sin. Sorrow will pursue you later. How sad you should feel at leaving good company! But that is not in you. You are eager to join bad company. This discipline, these college rules, these hostel rules: not one of them is there in the world outside. You think you can live as you like and do as you like. An animal's life is better than that, is it not! This is not freedom. True freedom is what teaches good, what trains in good, what shapes life into good.
