In plain words
Work ‘done gladly, with love’ is of great benefit. Cattle trust people, help them greatly, plough the land, till it, raise the crops and labour hard in many ways. Men seize such cattle and beat them cruelly. The very beast that did him good, he torments and harms. But ‘seeing a stone image, he worships it beautifully’. When he sees that same bull, Nandi, in stone, how much he worships it! This is the foolishness in man. God is everywhere. But we must see God as He is in living form. Such divine feelings must arise in us.
We must grow a mind that does not waver and a vision that is not deluded
Men today are turning into clever people who take the one for the many, but the humanness that believes the many to be one is wasting away. We must take up the unity within the many. That is the true ‘Raso vai saḥ’. That is Unity in Diversity. On just such a path we must enter the modern age. We must make our faith deep. We must see that the faith we have grown does not waver. We must grow a mind that does not waver and a vision that is not deluded. Only then will humanness stand firm. This very steadiness is the great victory we have to win. Anil Kumar said:
When their wish is granted, they praise you to the skies; when their wish is not granted, they revile you for nothing.
You would have to know which desires matter, wouldn't you, before thinking that those desires have not been fulfilled! Out of some Ajñāna they wish for petty things, and when these are not fulfilled they run away dissatisfied. How much better, how much more precious, the thing God stands ready to give than that! What do you know of it? What do you know of how precious the things in God's treasury are?
