In plain words
In place of that ‘Son’, I now say, ‘Golden one, golden one.’ Then Bābā: ‘This is My own doing! If you want to keep your honour, stay respected and see that no bad remark comes on you, set out for Shirdi at daybreak,’ He counselled him. He set out and reached Shirdi. The lost goods were right there. Then the police came to Shirdi for the inquiry. ‘It is not Dās Gaṇu's fault; because he forgot his promise, I Myself made them disappear, to punish him. It was I Myself who made them appear again,’ Bābā explained to the police. From then on Dās Gaṇu stayed on in Shirdi. He was a poet; he used to sing fine songs. He went round all the villages giving harikathās about Bābā. Before that, whenever anyone went to Bābā, he used to revile them all. Now he went on inviting everyone to come to Bābā. ‘Those who do not come to Shirdi are sinners indeed! If you go to Shirdi, your life will be fulfilled,’ he would say, telling all these things in his harikathās. Hearing of this power, many people came to Bābā.
One day Bābā was sitting under a banyan tree. A few devotees were there too. Among them was Dās Gaṇu. Answering when anyone asked a question, and now and then telling Dās Gaṇu to sing. Everyone was silent. Just then a lizard chirped. Everyone fixed their attention on that sound. At the time of bhajan even a small sound is heard. Some of them asked, ‘Swami! There is some inner meaning in the sound of the lizard; when a lizard chirps, is it good or bad?’ That was the question they put. When a lizard chirps it is very good, our people say. Such are the beliefs among the people. ‘What is the inner meaning in its chirping?’ they said. ‘Satan! Don't you know even that much! Everyone has some belief. When some event takes place, people grow excited. When your children are coming to your house, how happy you are! When wife and children are coming home, how very happy one is! In just the same way that lizard is happy! What is the reason for its happiness? Its sister is coming from Aurangabad,’ Bābā said.
