They call it kalyāṇa. If you marry and go on living a worldly life, that is no kalyāṇa; it becomes something inauspicious. What takes place in the thought of God is kalyāṇa. That will turn out very well,’ said Bābā, and sent him off.
After the wedding they talk together, don't they! Wife and husband. ‘We must live in Bhakti. For me God alone is the guru. Shirdi Sai Bābā alone is my guru,’ he kept telling his wife. At that, worry began in her: ‘At such a young age he is already going about after sannyāsīs!’ ‘Why do you need this from so young an age? After you retire, you can go to sannyāsīs if you want,’ she said. He gave one answer only: ‘If you put anything in the way of my devotion, I will leave even you. But I will not leave Bābā.’ Until she changed, until she spoke in that way, he stopped speaking even a single word to her. Such was his faith. She thought, ‘I must not trouble him in the least.’ And she went on behaving accordingly. Going to Shirdi and coming back, on journeys of this kind, the two of them were happy. Little by little he rose very high in his profession. At one time a difficulty came to Bābā. It was no difficulty at all! Some thieves had committed a theft, tied up the money in a bundle, and were going away. The police caught them. When the police caught them, all those goods passed into their hands. Making their inquiry, the police asked the thieves, ‘Where did you bring this from?’ At a loss for anything to say, they said, ‘Bābā gave it.’ The moment they said Bābā had given it, they took hold of Bābā. The police came to Bābā and asked, ‘Did you give these goods to such-and-such people?’ “Yes, I gave them,” said Bābā. What did He mean by that? ‘He alone gives to all. He Himself is giving to every single one.’ So He said, ‘To these very men I Myself gave those goods.’ The police asked again, ‘Where did you come by these goods?’ ‘They were right here with Me,’ said Bābā. As the conversation went on like this, some: ‘Why is Bābā talking like this? All these were with Me, I gave them, these are all My own people: this is how He is talking!’ And doubts began among the lawyers.
