Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Instead of that, we go on foolishly.

Today people change, but minds do not change

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! The heart of the people of Bhārata is very broad. It is very blessed. These differences of race and religion have filled such a heart and are widening the distance between people. So today, as we build up our morality and integrity, ‘The race of all of us is one! It is the human race’: there is every need for us to proclaim this to the world. 'There is only one caste, the caste of humanity; there is only one religion, the religion of Love; there is only one language, the language of the heart': this we must teach the world. If we take these three as our basis, we can achieve any progress at all. So, with this feeling kept in your heart, every human being must carry out his own duty and practise the Dharma enjoined on him. This is what we must learn today! Bhārata is filled with problems of many kinds. But one thing you must recognise clearly. You are afraid that some dangers or other will come. Reports of some kind are appearing in the newspapers and elsewhere. But Bhārata has no fear of any kind, ever: none, none, none. All these are only changes of some kind. They are signs of a kind of process. In the end all these will lead to a good outcome. But man's mind must change. Today people change, but minds do not change. They change their clothes, but their qualities do not change. What is the use, tell Me? The qualities must change; the minds must change. Only then will everything have changed.

The individual and society are bound together inseparably, each resting on the other

The hatreds in us, the envy, the Ahaṅkāra: all these are the traits of beasts. The traits human beings should have are Śānti, forbearance, Prema, compassion and sacrifice. We must develop these human values today.
