In plain words
Prema belongs to the heart; it is eternal, it is divine
God alone is the true friend! That is why, at every moment, with you, in you, around you. In no circumstances will God leave you. But when you make your heart impure, God leaves you at once. What is the reason? In such a heart there is no room for Him to sit. When even the body, impermanent, transient and untrue as it is, has to sit on the floor, you spread a mat, a cushion, a newspaper, something, and then you sit. Then if God is to sit, do you not need to make the place clean? Do you not need to lay a seat? When there is nothing of the kind, how will God come and sit? God is surely there. But when there is no purity of heart, you do not see Him. There is water in a pot. So long as there is water in the pot, the reflection of the sun is seen. But when the pot breaks and the water runs out, the reflection is not seen. Has the reflection gone anywhere? No, it has not; it is there! It is not seen only because there is no water. Our body itself is like a pot. Prema is the water in it. So long as that water is there, the reflection shows clearly in the water. When the water is gone, the reflection is not seen. People are putting this Prema into petty worldly things. Giving it the name ‘Prema’, they go into what is called attachment. In truth, attachment belongs to the world. It keeps shrinking and growing from moment to moment. Prema, on the contrary, belongs to the heart; it is eternal, it is divine.
In the heart of the jīva, where there is no death and no birth, Prema shines out as an ever-spotless light.
What shrinks in a moment and swells in a moment is not Prema at all. It never changes at any time. We must always hold such Prema.
Today men who should be avadhūtas are turning into Yama's messengers
Human birth, they said, is very hard to win. If we too live by food, sleep, fear and mating, what is the difference between the animals and us?
