In plain words

But since the very birth of Balarāma and Kṛṣṇa was for the destruction of the wicked, the work for which they had come had to go on. So, without heeding the gopīs' prayer, they got into the chariot. All the gopīs surrounded the chariot and kept it from moving forward. ‘Now none of our prayers will reach Śrī Kṛṣṇa's ears. So we must pray to them with humility and obedience, and with Prema,’ they decided, and gathered all round so that the horses could not move.

Have mercy, Swami! Why will You not be still? We cannot live a moment apart from You, Swami! Why do You treat us like this? Is this good? Have mercy, Swami! Why will You not be still? What is this great yāga? Kaṃsa's wicked scheme! One alone is our prayer, one alone is our prayer: why will You not tell us, who trusted You, to come too? Swami! Swami! Swami! Have mercy, Swami! Why will You not be still?

So they prayed. Even as they prayed, by Kṛṣṇa's Māyā the chariot went away, seen by no one.

The gopīs' hearts were wholly filled with Prema

The gopīs' hearts were wholly filled with Prema. Is this a tree? Is this a bush? Is this a flower? Can these speak? Do these have eyes? They had no such discernment at all. Because their hearts are filled with Prema, everything appears to them as Prema. Taking everything to be alive, they run about. They go up to tree after tree, to every flower, and ask:

One dark of hue, with eyes like lotuses, who showers the nectar of grace upon all, with a peacock feather fanned out on His crown, whose face shines with a smile: such a one has stolen the treasure of the maidens' honour. O jasmines! Is He not hiding behind your bushes? Do tell us!
