When I went to Simla, a lady called Kṛṣṇapriya came to see Me, trembling and trembling, holding a stick!

Through modern education people forget humanness itself

Such is the Shirdi principle, filled with divine messages like these. At Shirdi, Jñāna was not taught through discourses alone. Bābā went on teaching everything in a stern way. That is because the atmosphere of those days was like that. Once, Dādā's wife brought a child. She came with her husband's leave to stay some days in Shirdi. At the time the plague was rife there. The child got a fever. Big swellings like blisters broke out all over its body. ‘Alas! I came even though my husband did not like it, and here my child has caught the plague. Who will save me?’ she grieved. Then she took the child and went to the mosque. She cried out, ‘Bābā! Bābā!’ ‘What brings you? So your child has a fever! Have the swellings come up?’ He asked, and with ‘Not the child alone, Me too,’ He took off His shirt and showed the swellings. Mahalsāpati was right beside Him. ‘What is this, Swami! Such big, big swellings,’ he said, feeling them there and looking. Bābā had a high fever, and it stood at 105°. Then she: ‘Alas! What a pity! Not my son alone, has it come to You too? Who will save You?’ she went on grieving in this way. ‘You protect all: is there anyone else to protect You? Swami! Forgive my offence’: with that she slapped her own cheeks. Within a little while Bābā's fever came down. She came home in joy. When she reached home, her child too had no swellings and no fever. ‘Bābā! Did You take all my child's suffering upon Yourself?’ So she gave thanks to Bābā. In this way, in every case, Bābā went on showing the outcome then and there. What was the root cause of this? In those days it was complete faith. Devotees who followed to the letter whatever was said. But today it is not so. Tell them anything and they put ten questions about it. Even after asking those ten questions, they still have doubts from head to foot! The cause is the influence of modern education!
