In plain words
Through this modern education they are forgetting humanness itself. Turning utterly cruel, they become ungrateful. They are forgetting everything. Only the bad they foster within their hearts. Today the demonic is growing in man. In those days there was at least humanness in man. Today man is only a human shape; all the rest is animal nature. Whatever he asks, it is for himself! If their wish is fulfilled, ‘Bābā!’ ‘Bābā!’ they come, smiling. If it turns out otherwise, they change and go their own way. In a humanity that lives like cruel beasts, how can Bhakti for Bābā grow? The shape is human, but the conduct is the conduct of a beast. Only on the day we destroy the cruel beastliness within us shall we take shape as human beings.
The Muralīdhara temple that Būṭī built then is today the samādhi temple
We must look a little further into the way Bābā left the body, too. First, on 28 September, the fever came. After that He was well for fifteen days. On 15 October, again, nothing showed there. The day Bābā left the body was 15 October. Bābā did leave the body, but then many problems arose there. The Muslims all came. They fought, saying, ‘This body belongs to us.’ All the Hindus argued, ‘This body must come to us.’ Bābā was the one who always said ‘Allāh Mālik,’ ‘Allāh Mālik’. So on one side they said He was a Muslim; on the other side, that He was the one who said Rāma Mālik, Kṛṣṇa Mālik, and so He was a Hindu, our Bābā. In these circumstances, with no decision on how the last rites for Bābā's body should be done, they kept the body just as it was for thirty-six hours. In the end, fearing what clashes might break out between the two, the police, the Collector and everyone gathered at Shirdi. They called together all the people of Shirdi. There they set up a way of voting. They settled who had the majority on how the rites for Bābā's body should be done. Everyone said it must be done in the Hindu way.
