In plain words

We must receive honour from others. If you do not honour others but want others to honour you, how will they honour you? This is the very first thing students have to learn. Honour others. Receive honour from others. Offer others a greeting full of Prema. Others too will offer you a greeting. not one way traffic, give and take. If you do not first honour others but want others to honour you, why should they honour you? Even dogs will not honour you. First of all you must become humble and obedient. Vidyāvinaya sampanne. Learning comes only to one who has humility. One who lacks such humility and obedience is no better than a demon. Such a man may pursue any number of studies; what is the use?

What is the use of studying any number of studies? Who can avert what is written on his brow? If evil thoughts come near him, his thoughts wither and turn to stone.

What is the use of our having such thoughts?

Students! There are many universities in the world. There are institutions of learning. But the difference between our institution and the institutions outside must be shown in our conduct. The teachers and officials fit for it must show themselves to be worthy examples. If the officials and the teachers go the wrong way, how will the children stay on the right path? Professors and teachers must first of all acquire humility. Unity alone is our strength. Practice is the root cause of its growth. Without unity and without practice, they are only buffaloes roaming the bazaar. Fools. If we have no humility, we will become demons beyond all bounds.

Students! What you must achieve first of all is humility. Humility is most necessary. That is the whole essence of learning. Only then shall we be called educated. You must acquire humility. You must nourish freedom from Ahaṅkāra. You must conduct yourself without show. Envy must not enter us in the least. We must not be envious because someone is doing well. We must not be envious because someone got high marks. What is the root cause of this envy and Ahaṅkāra? Selfishness alone. When you give room to this selfishness, many bad qualities come in.

Students! Even if we live only three days, we must live as ideal students. "Rather than roam about for ages as a crow, be a swan and play even for a moment!" Students! Today is a most holy festival day. It is the day that gives the many kinds of enjoyment and riches of nature. It is the Saṅkramaṇa, which gives enjoyment and riches. It comes with many harvests.

The sun now seemed calm; the days grew short; the cold wind grew sharper; in the fields, by the dim moonlight of night, at the threshing of the heaps, the farmers raised their voices and began to sing their songs; the green flowers strung strings of pearls on the jute fields; the chilli pods took on the gleam of kumkum; the marigolds opened their faces a little; filling our homes with the wealth of grain, in the charming month of Puṣya the Saṅkrānti festival has come, in all its splendour.

The month of Puṣya, which makes nature beautiful. We see the beauty of nature, but we do not see the joy of our heart in the least. The joy of the heart is what we need. If you want the joy of the heart, you must bring in the sacred Prema of God.

Students! People gathered here! From today, bring out the enthusiasm, the strength and the ability that are in the young, and spread the Name of God in every street and every quarter. You must root out hatred and envy completely. Even if your worst enemy comes before you, you must greet him joyfully, saying "Sai Ram". Do not hate anyone. If you do not like someone, just keep quiet. But you must spread the remembrance of the Name over the whole world. All these waves up above are waves of electric power. It is only because these waves are impure that our hearts are becoming impure.
