In plain words

"I have studied every branch of learning. My teachers too have taught me every branch of learning," he said. "Tell me what they taught you," said Hiraṇyakaśipu.

"My teachers taught me; I studied the chief śāstras of Dharma and Artha; many are the things I have studied; I have studied, father, the whole secret within learning."

What is that secret? "Om namo Nārāyaṇāya": Om, that is the sound of the Praṇava. That is the beginning. That is the first sound. From this first sound eight letters were born: ka, ca, ṭa, ta, pa, ya, śa. From these eight letters all the Vedas began. This is the reason all the Vedas and Upaniṣads developed. The children know. In English there are 26 letters. With these 26 letters you can write a big book. A violin has four wires. You can sing so many rāgas. In the same way. In the same way, the whole Veda began in these eight letters called a ka ca ṭa ta pa ya śa. Because it came from sound, they named it Śruti. That is, it was gained by hearing. The Ṛg Veda, the Yajur Veda, the Sāma Veda. The Trayī. The Ṛg Veda is the form of mantra. What does mantra mean? Om namo Nārāyaṇāya, Om namaḥ Śivāya: these are not the mantras. "Mananatrāṇa sammilitaṃ": that means reflecting on what you have heard and putting into practice what you have reflected on. The one who does these three is a man. Thought, word, deed: the three must become one. This is the mantra. They went on teaching this principle of mantra at great length. The power of this mantra is very great. There is great power in this sound of the Praṇava. This Praṇava is made up of the letters A, U and M. Only when these letters join does it take the form of sound. In the Gāyatrī mantra they called "bhūr bhuvas suvaḥ" the Bhūloka, the Bhuvarloka and the Suvarloka. Where is the Bhūloka? They say the Bhūloka means Prakṛti; it is not. It is not. It is materialisation. body. The body. Bhuvaḥ is vibration. Prāṇa. Suvaḥ is radiation. That is Prajñāna. The oneness of these three, Prajñāna, Prāṇa and the body, is "bhūr bhuvas suvaḥ". So this Bhūloka, Bhuvarloka and Suvarloka are not somewhere else. All of it is our own body. The one you think you are is body., the one others think you are, that is life.
