In plain words
You must practise everything. Practise each thing. Walking, talking, reading, writing: practise them all. This practice must go on in our daily life. But do that practice in the right way, in the true way. But you must not practise what is bad. What is bad needs no practice at all. Push a boulder on a hilltop with your foot, and it comes down and falls. To take a stone lying below up to the top and set it there is very hard. You need make no effort for bad qualities. A push is enough; it falls down. You all know: when a heavily loaded lorry has to climb a slope, even such a big lorry cries gee-gee-gee, poor thing. Climbing up is very painful. Coming down is easy. So we must not make an effort for what is easy. Take up the hard task. Look up. Low aim is crime. We must develop a lofty vision. That is true sādhana.
Is he God or not? What is God like? Where is He? You must give these doubts no room at all. These doubts come only to utter fools. God is everywhere. Those bad qualities are all in you. Because you keep bad qualities in you, everything looks bad. Whatever colour of glasses you wear, such is the scene you see. God is everywhere. You are God yourself. But you cannot see what is in you. What is the reason? You are sunk in selfishness. For all these, some care in food and pastimes is also essential. How must a good son be? He must be a good person. He must respect elders. He must offer humility and obedience. He must respect teachers. He must worship his mother and father. He must bow to their command. Why did Rāma become God? He bowed to the command of his mother and father. Not only that: he must be a good friend. He must have friendship with everyone. Brotherly Prema is very great. That is why the people lived together in a peaceful atmosphere. He regarded the people's welfare as his own welfare. We say prayers. ‘Lokāḥ samastāḥ sukhino bhavantu’. But he says, ‘What do I care how the others fare; I must be well.’ This is not Lokāḥ samastāḥ sukhino bhavantu. You must pray from your heart that everyone be well. Why? You too are one of all these. Only if society is well can you be well, is it not so?
