In plain words
So in the ancient culture: 'Satyaṃ vada dharmaṃ cara'. We must keep on living our life with these two as our support. In this worldly, mundane world, if we would earn fame, our actions must be right. As long as there are money, gold, goods, vehicles and the like, the world honours us. Whom is it honouring? You are deluded that they are honouring you. No, no; they are honouring you on seeing the money you have with you. They honour you according to the post you hold. They honour you on seeing the strength of the people you have. They honour you on seeing the strength of your intellect. The honouring is not on seeing the strength of character. Character itself is true fame. Individual character. Character in relation to society. When there is no individual character in us, how can you earn social character? Without earning these social qualities, how can you earn national character? This national character is caritra. Rāma's caritra, Kṛṣṇa's caritra. Such as these have taken shape as caritras. If we just write our own caritras, we cannot call them caritras. That is a great insult. HIS STORY is HISTORY. What describes God's virtues and qualities is story. His exemplary virtues are our story. We must develop such caritras. We must become caritrātmakas; we must not become jīvātmakas. We must not strive after desires that are fleeting and impermanent, like passing clouds. You must strive for the satisfaction of your Ātma. How many learned men are there in the world! How many men of great intellect are there in the world! There are intellectuals who divide unity into multiplicity, but intellectuals who achieve the unity that is in multiplicity are not to be seen. One who divides unity into multiplicity is an intellectual. One who believes in the unity in multiplicity is the man of caritra. We must recognise that unity. The forms and names of bodies may be any number. But in all, the Divinity called Satya is only one.
How must we achieve such Satya? Satya is not something taught by gurus. Nor is it from books. It is not something bought in the market. It is not something friends give as a gift. You must achieve it in practice. In daily life we must keep our aim on Satya. That is our true humanness. Humanness is what is joined with purity of thought, word and deed. Thought, word, deed: there must be unity of these three.
