Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

All these worldly earnings have to be left behind wherever they are, and we have to go. What stays with you, as your companion, before your eyes and in your home, and keeps protecting you, is only one: that is Satya. So we must enter such a sacred path. There is no use in merely repeating 'Rām Rām Rām'. It is coming merely from the lips, not from the heart. A tape recorder keeps on singing. But how much fruit comes from it? A gramophone record is singing. How much fruit comes from it? It must be given a little connection. Then the song comes out properly. That very current is will power. That itself they called free will. This free will is with God alone; no one else has it. Everyone may speak of free will. Hm. They pronounce the words, but that free will is not in you. You are losing the will power that is in you. Where can you keep this free will? How can you protect it? The place to protect it is your heart itself. Not merely the physical heart. The spiritual heart. Wherever we go, just as our breathing in and out goes on, so that contemplation must go on. Even while we sleep, our breathing in and out keeps going on. Even while we are working, the breathing in and out goes on naturally. Even while we are quarrelling with someone, our breathing in and out goes on naturally. It is no hindrance at all to what is worldly. In the same way, on whatever path, it stays for ever. We must try to follow that which is true and eternal.

Students! What we must foster are Satya and Dharma. Not merely for protecting the world. There is no one who protects the world. Here. Satya and Dharma alone protect the world. What you must protect is Satya and Dharma. When you protect those two, those two themselves protect the country. So we must look on Satya and Dharma as equal to our life. 'Dharmo rakṣati rakṣitaḥ, Dharmayeva hato hanti.' Today we do not know what Dharma is. We do not know what Satya is. Satya is that which stays unchanged in all three times. It is not something that changes from moment to moment; all that is fact. This is worldly truth. This keeps changing. Yoga in the early morning, roga at noon, bhoga at night: if it changes in this way, how long can it last? For the Rāmāyaṇa, they said, lust is the chief thing.
