Passage 6

In plain words

We must pursue studies that strengthen the bond of kinship between man and man.

Today there is hatred between man and man. Hatred between village and village, hatred between state and state. How will the hatred between country and country ever go away? In your country, in your state, in your village, you are growing as much hatred as you like. If it is said that people of some foreign country out there are falling upon our country, the very telling of it is a disgrace. First set your own house in order. Set your village in order. Set your state in order. In the home itself there are quarrels enough. You are unable to hold this together. How can you, in what way can you hold this together for foreign countries? What power is there in this? First hold your home together. Nourish your humanness. Regard all as children of God. This truly is the education students must learn. Wherever you go, money, money. This money: what is it for? For burning! What are you doing with your money? Are you doing good to the country? Are you helping even ten people? Are you using it for the progress of education? You are doing nothing. This money is just like earth put in a pit. So we must not offer up our life for money. We must offer up our life for compassion, for Prema. We must offer up money for the body. We must offer up money for honour. For God we must offer up body, money, honour, everything. Hold on to Satya. Practise Dharma. For humanness, these two alone are the chief things. Whatever situation comes, even if it comes to your being put in jail, do not give up Satya. They say they will cut the throat. Cut the throat; I will not give up Satya: take Hariścandra as your support. That very Satya protected everything and gave him back his lost kingdom. What is the manure for this Satya? It is Prema. So we must foster Prema.

We must not make this Prema limited. It must not be confined to ‘I and my family’. If you think ‘I and my family’, go and sit in the forest. Why should you live in the town? Why live in society? Since you are in society, you must seek the welfare of society. Living in society, if you keep saying ‘I and my family’, you become like one who has caught a special contagious disease.
