Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Truth is one, not two. So firmly has it gone on saying this.

God is One!

Vedānta is not saying, ‘I am one.’ It declares firmly, ‘I am one, only one; not two.’ As if striking a bell, it proclaims it, teaches it and spreads it to the world. God is One; Allah is One; Jesus is One; Rāma is One; Īśvara is One; Viṣṇu is One; all are the One! Some people say the Persians are different and the Zoroastrians are different. The Sikhs say Guru Nānak alone is the One. Devotees of Rāma say Rāma is different. Devotees of Kṛṣṇa say Kṛṣṇa is different. No, no. It goes by people's tastes, but God is One! The names and forms differ. Through the craving of your tongue you long, ‘I want sweets, I want jalebi, I want barfi, I want Mysore pak.’ The sugar in all these barfis, sweets and jalebis is one and the same! It is the craving of the tongue that longs for so many kinds of taste. Contemplate any name, behold any form; the goal is one! Goal is one, God is one. We must not criticise any of them. None of them is separate. All together they are one! Only when we enquire well into such oneness does Ānanda come to us. That is Unity in diversity

Stars are many but sky is one Bodies are many but life is one Beings are many but breath is one Nations are many but World is one Religions are many but truth is one

We must try to recognise this truth well. We must not divide things in the least, ‘This I like, this I do not like.’ If you recognise oneness of this kind, you will surely be immersed in that principle. Whatever work you do, at any time, ‘I am God, I am God.’ Keep doing it in that feeling!
