Where there is self satisfaction, there is self sacrifice. Where there is self sacrifice, there is self realisation. For all of these there is punishment too. In passion and without thinking, we make mistakes. For the slip or the wrong each one has done, repentance must arise in him, and he must make amends. Not only that: he must not do them again. That is self punishment. Without this self punishment, man falls utterly to ruin. In judgement, they punish some of those who have done wrong. What is that for? ‘Therefore be watchful, be watchful’: so that others, every one of them, should fear to do wrong. So we need Law. Today Law & Order in the world has gone completely. There must be punishment for wrong. Punishments are there for betterment in the future. Then our education and our life become fruitful. We must live in discipline. Differences of caste and creed must never arise among us. Caste of Humanity, Religion of Love. We must hate no one. These alone are the ideals we must have. Some differences or other may arise. But we must not hate the person. That is discrimination.
Do not scramble for degrees; develop humanness!
From the individual to the family, from the family to society, and within society, we must go on developing human values. Then peace will come to the country. We must develop the broad feeling, ‘May all the worlds be happy.’ Today in the world there is only selfishness, selfishness. A fish enters the water and cleans all of it. This selfish enters society and makes it all dirty. Are we lower than a fish? No, no. We must offer an ideal life in society. That is why I keep saying, ‘Do not scramble for degrees; develop humanness!’ Regard everyone as a child of God! That is Unity in Diversity.
