Passage 9

In plain words

Though names and forms appear different in the world, earth is earth!

‘To go back to where it was born is the nature of every living creature.’ A small example. There is a clay pot. With that pot you fetch water. You do your cooking. You store provisions. As you are bringing water, it slips from your hand and falls down. The pot falls and breaks into pieces. You leave it right there. What becomes of it? As cars, buses, lorries and people, all of them, pass over it, it breaks into more pieces and still more pieces, and in the end it turns into earth. Where did the pot come from? It came from earth. It went back again as earth. You plant a seed in the ground. From the seed a plant came. Little by little the plant became a tree. In the tree, branches and twigs grew out. Lakhs and thousands of leaves formed. Among the leaves, flowers kept being born. When each one dropped, they turned into young fruit. What are these branches, leaves, flowers and young fruit? All of it is earth itself! They appear in different forms, but all of it is the form of earth! In just the same way, though names and forms appear many and varied in this world, earth is earth! ‘Man mixes his birth into the dust.’ He is one who came from earth! How did he come from earth? A small example. We lit a fire against the cold. We brought rubbish and lit a fire.

As the fire, so the smoke; as the smoke, so the cloud; as the cloud, so the rain; as the rain, so the crop; as the crop, so the cooking; as the cooking, so the body.

Your body came from the food you ate. Coming from earth, it goes back into earth. The great ones who recognised this truth were the very ones who renounced the body, believed in God and worshipped the true indweller.
