Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Some others went to Rāmakṛṣṇa Paramahaṃsa. ‘Sir! You are always absorbed in the service of God. Have you seen this God?’ they asked. He burst out laughing: ‘Here, I am seeing Him. I see you yourself as God. You appear right before my eyes. All are embodiments of God! But your vision is different. All of you think of yourselves as human beings. You believe all this to be the universe. All that is seen is the form of God!’

If you yearn for God, He appears at once

How can you say you have not seen, even while you are seeing? Then why does He not appear to you as the form of God? O man! You weep for a wife. You weep for a husband. You weep for positions. You weep for money. You weep for a name. You weep for prestige. Do you weep for God? No. Weep for God as you weep for that, and He appears at once. The moment it comes to God, part time devotion comes in. In Worldly life, full time devotion. For the life of the world he is ready to give anything at all. This is what the Veda said. ‘Nakarmaṇā naprajayā dhanena tyāgenaike amṛtatvamānasuḥ’: what must we give up? We must give up delusion. There is no need to give up house and home.

Not leaving property and wife to go off to the forest; giving up wicked thoughts in the citta: that is sacrifice; that itself is yoga.

We must give up the bad qualities that have settled in the citta. That is true sacrifice. Who keeps to this sacrifice? Only when we keep to it will the real principle become clear to us.
