In plain words
Bali Cakravarti never went back on his word
Whoever comes in the way of sacrifice, we need not heed them. Bali Cakravarti saw that Vāmana was coming. Bali Cakravarti had always welcomed everyone, whoever came. To Vāmana, who had come, he gave a high seat. ‘Swāmī! What do You desire?’ he said. ‘I want nothing; I want three feet of ground,’ He said. Then Bali Cakravarti: ‘What is this? Need You come so far to ask for three feet of ground? Three feet are to be had anywhere,’ he said. ‘No, no, you must give just the three feet I asked for,’ said Vāmanamūrti. Behind him stood Śukrācārya. This royal guru was Bali Cakravarti's guru. ‘Bali Cakravarti, my lord! He is no ordinary being. Do not be misled in haste; do not agree to the gift at all,’ he advised. ‘Is there a sin worse than giving one's word and going back on it?’ ‘This cannot be gone back on. Be it the guru, be it anyone at all. I will give up even my guru, but I will not go back on the word I have given,’ and he made the gift. Such an embodiment of Satya was Bali Cakravarti. Bali Cakravarti was one who never went back on his word. That is why the people of Kerala today, with the greatness of Bali Cakravarti of those days planted in their hearts, have been keeping this Onam every year in his memory.
Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema are the forms of God
What do we worship? We worship Satya itself. Without this Satya, nothing has any value.
Without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, all the learning you acquire is worth nothing; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, charity and good works come to nothing; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the fruit of holding high office is nothing; without Satya, Dharma, Prema and Śānti, the gain of many good deeds is nothing. To hold up the mansion of our Sanātana Dharma these four qualities are the foundation walls, my dear. What more than this can I make known to you, O members of this gathering, counted among the good and the virtuous!
